Breast Reconstruction

Slideshow image
m o d e l

The two procedures Mastopexy (also known as a Breast-lift) and Mammaplasty (also known as a Breast-Reduction) are actually quite similar, because they are both aimed at remodeling and shaping the breast. The reduction is performed by removing a part of the large breast and reshaping it. The breast-lift procedure is performed by removing some skin, and possibly a small part of the breast. This procedure may also include the addition of an implant to enlarge it (see breast augmentation).

Breast Reconstruction. Regain Control of your Body!

   Breast Reconstruction

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. It is predicted that in 2003, there will be 211,300 new cases, with a woman diagnosed every two and one-half minutes. When mastectomy is a part of the treatment plan, many special concerns and fears arise, particularly concerning permanent physical disfigurement. Fortunately, recent advances in breast reconstruction have provided sophisticated procedures that allow for successful restoration of the body and your all important sense of beauty and wholeness. While few doctors and even fewer patients have up-to-date information about breast reconstruction and the latest surgical advances -- we are here to help you!

   AM I A CANDIDATE?
No matter your age, size, or whether you had your mastectomy years ago, you are may still be a excellent candidate for breast reconstruction. Our Patient Coordinator will help you complete a basic medical history screening form to ensure that your overall health and treatment needs are compatible with the consideration of breast restoration utilizing your body's own tissue.

   NEW NATURAL BREASTS

At the Beverly Hills Ambulatory Surgery Center for Restorative Breast Surgery, we specialize in the procedures that allow for reconstruction of your breast without sacrifice of important functional muscle units in the abdomen (DIEP) or gluteal region (GAP). The restored breast is typically very natural looking with softness and shape that closely match that of your own breast.

  IMMEDIATE OR DELAYED RECONSTRUCTION
Breast reconstruction may be performed simultaneously to mastectomy for immediate restoration of volume and shape. If radiation following mastectomy is planned, the restoration may be delayed for a time. The benefit of immediate reconstruction is that it allows for a skin sparing mastectomy in those who are appropriate candidates. Our breast cancer surgeons can consult with you to decide whether immediate of delayed reconstruction is best for you. If you have already had lumpectomy or mastectomy, it is not too late to undergo restoration of your body and sense of wholeness. If you have had a previous reconstruction that you are dissatisfied with, you may benefit from replacing your implants or expanders with your own body's tissue.

  INSURANCE COVERAGE

Most of the insurance companies pay for all or part of the cost of breast reconstruction at any time after removal of your breast tissue, including surgery to the healthy breast for symmetry if needed. Read the applicable laws herein. Our Patient Support Staff are very experienced in working with all major insurers and will help you work through the details of your individual insurance plan to help avoid unnecessary out of pocket expenses. If you have experienced a denial of coverage from your insurer please communicate with our staff as these problems are often reversible and our office can help prepare you with the proper documentation to resolve the issue with your insurer.
