Through out the day we do lot of work with our hands and do lot of walking with our legs. Some time we pack our feet in narrow toed shoes and hold hard objects in our hand for the work. We pressurize these two important parts of our body for our convenience with out any care. Hence as time passes we find our hands are getting harder and loosing their smoothness. This is due to the calluses, which is thickened mass of our tissues.
Basically, callus is the thickened protective layer of the skin, which is resulted when continuously unnecessary friction is being done. Calluses can be generalized by their protrusions formed by the cell debris. These are generally not painful. But may get aggravated to inflammation and cause pain if neglected. So, if calluses are creating problem for an individual for his/her work, then treatment must be start immediately. As calluses are simple protruded masses, they may get healed automatically with proper care.
For many times routine work can also cause these protrusions to develop on our hands. But still there are certain reasons, if calluses are appearing again and again. One of them and very basic is using tight shoes for daily work. Calluses can also caused by using tight socks, stockings, or other types of foot clothing’s. People involved in manual labor and who do not protect their skin from dusty and rough environment can also develop calluses. Calluses can also get on your hands, if you are involved in hyperactivity work such as daily hard exercise, giving pressure on your hand and legs muscles. Except to these numerous reasons are involved to form calluses on your hands and legs.
One can identify the calluses by their remarkable protrusion and thickened surrounding skin. Sometimes they can be ruled out by circular skin cyst. A callus doesn’t need any treatment, unless and until it gets inflamed or painful. Risk factor is more if you’re a diabetic patient. Because, many times poor circulation worsen the condition. You may also need to see a doctor if you observed any redness, pus-like discharge, and any color change of you toe fingers. In worst case you may get fever, and gangrene at the infected sight.
You have lot of ways to treat your calluses. One can prevent the calluses from becoming painful. Only he/she needs to change daily footwear and need to protect well the affected area. One can apply moisturizer cream directly the calluses. Another is you can soak your feet or hands in warm water and can scribble the dead cells. If your calluses are infected, then it’s better to take medicines to cure it. Always use gloves and comfortable wears to cover you hand and legs. Before start working with hand using tools wear padded coverings. And always protect your hands and legs from dust, muddy environment, and unnecessary moisture. |
